Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 2011 (BCAM)
This April, to mark Bowel Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), national charity Bowel Cancer UK is encouraging men and women across the UK to be aware of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer and to act on their concerns, sooner rather than later.
Focus on Bowel Cancer Symptoms and Early Detection
Despite the fact that someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes in the UK, public awareness of the disease and its symptoms is poor, and many people delay visiting their GP when they have concerns.
To tackle this problem Bowel Cancer UK has developed new bowel cancer awareness resources including a bowel cancer symptoms poster that you can order from the charity and display throughout April.

How you can help
Whether it’s raising awareness or fundraising, there are many ways you can support BCAM:
1. Promote and display our bowel cancer awareness materials in a public place
2. Publicise our Bowel Cancer Advisory Service - freephone 0800 8 40 35 40 - whenever you can, so that we can continue to support for the 38,600 people diagnosed with bowel cancer each year
3. Arrange a bowel cancer awareness talk or stand. Contact Gail or Caroline on healthpromotion@bowelcanceruk.org.uk for more details on how we can assist you with this
4. Take part in our “Spring Step” sponsored walks on 2nd April in London and 30th April in Edinburgh. For details or to register emailevents@bowelcanceruk.org.uk or visit the events section
Please note that we do get very busy in April and that attendance by staff may not be possible at very short notice. Please contact us as soon as you can, and consider holding events beyond BCAM – we will support you all the year round!
Thank you so much for supporting Bowel Cancer UK and we look forward to hearing from you.
