NORTHAMPTON MUSLIM FORUM

On 4 October 2009 a football tournament was organised by the Northampton Muslim Youth Forum so as to promote awareness and tare down the negative image of Muslims in sport. Eighteen teams taking part and prizes were given out at a celebratory lunch held at the Northampton County Cricket Ground with Inspiration FM providing the music.

Attending the event were local signatories and members of parliament including Northampton's Mayor Councillor Michael Hill, Northampton MPs Brian Binley, Sally Keeble and former Northampton MP and Cobblers director Tony Clarke.

Mohammad Cali and Saffraz Hussain two members of the Northampton Muslim Youth Forum came together to tackle peoples perceptions around young muslims. It was formed as a result of Muslim youths from the three main large Muslim populations in Northampton (Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Somali) getting together to discuss common issues. They discovered that they had so much in common that with the assistance of the Police and local authority, they agreed to form a Youth Forum which will eventually include all the other 20 or so national groups. To kick start things Mohammad Cali and Saffraz Hussain two members of the Northampton Youth Muslim Forum arranged a football tournament aiming to intergrate muslims and non muslims using football.a sport loved by many. Inspiration FM went along to event which took place at Goals in Mereway consisting of 18 teams. More
