The hugely popular Brief Encounter, a co-production with Kneehigh Theatre, played to packed houses at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate last February before embarking on a national tour. Having scooped Best Touring Production at the TMA Awards ceremony last month it has now been nominated as Best Visiting Production in the Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards for its run at the Lowry, competing against productions such The Cripple of Inishmaan from Druid Theatre Company and Be Near Me by Donmar Warehouse and the National Theatre of Scotland.

Roald Dahl classic The BFG

The ever popular Roald Dahl classic The BFG, co-produced with Fiery Light, opened at Royal & Derngate in March, before starting an extensive nationwide tour. The show has been nominated by the Manchester Evening News in the Family category for its visit to the city's Palace Theatre. Competition for this award includes such largescale events as Walking with Dinosaurs at the MEN Arena.

The winners will be announced to an audience of stars from stage, TV and film at a glittering ceremony on Tuesday 8 December.
