Barbara Knox
aka Rita Sullivan

Performers that have been in the profession since a child, and working for MGM have been Mickey Rooney, Jean Harlow, Cora Sue Collins, Freddie Bartholomew.

Shirley Temple:
20th Century Fox refused to lend her to MGM, Shirley's management declined a substantial offer from MGM for Shirley,so Judy Garland was cast as Dorothy Gale, the lead in the famous MGM movie created in 1939.

Wizard Of OZ was the movie, which as you will  recall , came the song "SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW".

Today, End Of  The Rainbow, the title to playwrite Peter Quilter's current play to be co produced by Royal & Derngate. End Of The Rainbow, really a metaphor of Judy Garland's life.

Scene one , the hotel room in central London, January 1969, Miss Garland arrives with her new fiance, Mickey Deans.

Judy was booked by the Talk of the Town, cabaret restaurant featuring many of the popular artists of the time,

The songs  include "Come Rain", "Get Happy", "The Trolley song",
"The Man That Got Away", and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

End Of The Rainbow goes from the main set of the hotel room , Talk of the Town, and a BBC radio studio.
the venue Talk of the Town booked Judy to perform songs in front of a full orchestra.

The story leads up to Miss Garlands tragic accidental death on June 22nd 1969, from over dose of sleeping pills.

Tracie Bennett  played Miss Garland , It was a fantastic performance, Judy Garland was on that stage  in my opinion !

Tracie Bennett is an amazing singer/actress, and convinced me  that she was Judy Garland.

Tracie if you are reading this you made me cry on the final moments of Judy's life. A Standing ovation no less , and well deserved .

"End Of The Rainbow" Starring Tracie Bennett as Miss Judy Garland runs at Royal and Derngate Northampton until Saturday 20th Feb 2010.
