Northampton’s Mayorhold and St Michael’s multi storey car parks will stay open until midnight over the festive season.
The extended opening hours have been arranged by Northampton Borough Council in response to calls from local restaurants, pubs, clubs and theatres to increase the evening parking available for customers around the town centre.
The two car parks will be open from 7.30am to midnight from this week. At the same time a new evening tariff has been introduced meaning it will cost just £1 to park between 5pm and midnight. In the New Year the council will review how popular the extended hours are with customers and may decide to continue with the late night parking offer.
Councillor Tim Hadland, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:
“We are constantly looking at ways to improve the car parking offer in Northampton. We are committed to providing reasonably priced, safe and convenient car parking to help businesses, attract shoppers and customers and improve the local economy. We are extending the opening times of these premier car parks as our latest action to improve the service at this important time of the year.”
