Darsdale Care Home Celebrates 60 Years

Mark Dean

A Home for visually-impaired people celebrated it's 60th anniversary by welcoming 100 guests to the opening of it's new £50,000 sensory garden.

Darsdale Home in Raunds which is part of
Northamptonshire Association for the Blind began fundraising
in March 2007 for the project and work on the garden started
last September.

The garden was officially opened by BBC Radio Northampton's
Green Welly Show presenters Mark Dean (also from Inspiration FM )
and co host Johnny Amos.

It also features a large summerhouse, gazebo, fountains and many
comfortable oak benches.

Darsdale Home was officially opened by the Duchess of Gloucester in 1949,
when the home employed five staff and cared for up to 18 residents.

Now it employs 41 staff and cares for up to 30 visually impaired and dual sensory
loss residents.
