Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

A captivating adaptation for younger audiences..


 




Coming to Northampton’s Royal stage from Tuesday 20 to Saturday 24 April,
Carl Heap directs his own version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night,
a National Theatre touring production for younger audiences,
suitable for schools and families with children aged eight and above.

Seven actors play multiple characters and instruments in this engaging
and inventive production of Shakespeare’s most captivating comedy.
A stormy night, a shipwreck, some cunning capers and concealments
result in a love tangle to rival no other and a whole heap of mischief and mayhem.

The performance lasts 70 minutes with no interval and is a perfect way to
introduce young people to Shakespeare and live theatre.

Twelfth Night is the fifth Primary Classics production from Carl Heap, following his
highly successful versions of Pericles, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
and Macbeth.

Young Vic and National Theatre tour to Northampton UK in April



Northampton's Royal & Derngate has just announced that tours from two of the UK's top theatres
will be coming to the Royal stage in April, with two contrasting productions.
The Young Vic brings Sweet Nothings, a new version of Arthur Schnitzler's Liebelei,
and the National Theatre presents an adaptation of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night for younger audiences.

Luc Bondy, one of Europe’s most celebrated directors, returned to the Young Vic this spring to stage
Schnitzler’s classic Liebelei in a new version by Olivier Award-winning playwright David Harrower.
Having opened to critical acclaim, Sweet Nothings will tour to Royal & Derngate from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 April.

Set against a backdrop of Viennese decadence, Sweet Nothings explores the power of sexual longing,
the cruelty of tradition and the vulnerability of those in love.
Novelist and playwright Arthur Schnitzler was the great chronicler of Vienna at the end of the nineteenth century.
His La Ronde caused outrage when it was first performed, and his Dream Story inspired Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut.
