CELEBRATE AND STAY SAFE THIS CHRISTMAS

With the festive celebrations beginning throughout the borough, Corby Borough Council is about to make sure residents have an enjoyable and safe Christmas as they tackle the issues surrounding alcohol related crime and disorder in their latest Alcohol Week of Action event next week (Monday 10th – Friday 14th December 2012).

Throughout the week The Corby Community Safety Partnership will join forces to carry out activities such as awareness sessions at local pubs and clubs, high profile patrols, licensing visits to shops as well as clubs and pubs and test purchasing to tackle underage drinking.

There will also be bus parked out the Corby Cube on Tuesday 11th December from 10am-4pm to give members of the public alcohol harm messages, advice for the day after alcohol consumption (i.e driving implications), and information on units and calories.

Tackling alcohol related crime and disorder continues to be a priority for the Corby Community Safety Partnership. In the past 12 months, the teams have managed to reduce violent crime by 15% and anti-social behaviour by 18% and they will continue the hard work to tackle alcohol related violence and nuisance in next weeks Week of Action event.

Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said:

‘Through public consultation and JAG4ALL events, it has been highlighted that residents are concerned about alcohol related crime and disorder and want the partnership to concentrate their efforts on this issue. Throughout the week the partnership will be doing just that but this week will also be a chance for residents to see what work has already taken place and give direct feedback to the partnership.”

 

Plans progressing for new theatre at Corby Cube

Known as the Corby Cube, the new civic hub in Corby town centre is taking shape, and Northampton’s Royal & Derngate is working with Corby Borough Council to deliver a new arts facility within the building. 

 

Corby Cube:

An independent charitable trust is being established, which will work in partnership with Northampton Theatres Trust (which operates Royal & Derngate). Together they expect to create a nationally recognised programme of participatory activity and in-house productions, as well as presenting a full range of other live events, for up to 25,000 people each year.

The theatre at Corby Cube, which has yet to be named, aims to engage young people and families, and to make a visible impact on the lives of those involved with this exciting new venture, whether as audience or participants.

Royal & Derngate is currently leading the recruitment process to select a Creative Director and General Manager to head up the team at the new theatre at the Corby Cube, which is anticipated to open in October this year. The theatre is supported by Corby Borough Council, Arts Council England, Northampton County Council and Royal & Derngate.
