The cast of Honk! have ducked into town

Things start to get cracking behind the scenes at Royal & Derngate this week as the cast of Honk! The Ugly Duckling Musical arrive in town. Rehearsals have just begun for the fun-filled musical, which takes to the Royal stage from Tuesday 1 December until Sunday 3 January.

Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale and from the writers of Mary Poppins, this brilliantly funny story is awash with non-stop puns, an uplifting musical score and larger than life characters.

Andrew Panton returns to Northampton to direct Honk! following his previous success at Royal & Derngate as Associate Director of Follies in 2006. The cast of Honk! includes Andrew Dennis, most recently seen on screens in Doctors, The Bill, My Hero and Mothers and Daughters. Fiona Dunn who returns to the Royal stage where she performed in They’re Playing Our Song, Mark McDonnell, who has featured in Coronation Street. West-End actress Joanne Redman, who most recently starred in Les Miserables, Oliver and The Rocky Horror Show and Marilyn Cutts who comes fresh from performing Never Forget in the west-end and features on the original cast recording of Honk! Talented newcomer Adam Barlow takes the leading role of Ugly, the young duck who learns he is somehow different from his siblings. Local children all aged between the eight and twelve will be joining the cast to play the parts of the ducklings and froglets (in three teams of eight).
