Theatre comes home with new play by Northampton writer

While its productions of Spring Storm and Beyond the Horizon are playing to sell out audiences at London’s National Theatre,
Royal & Derngate is turning its focus firmly back on Northampton, where as part of its Hometown season
DC Moore’s brand new play Town, set in and around contemporary Northampton,
takes to the Royal stage from Friday 18 June to Saturday 3 July.

Following his critically acclaimed Honest – the one-man play which Royal & Derngate staged in the Mailcoach pub
this spring – Northampton writer DC Moore’s Town poignantly explores enduring themes of identity,
isolation and belonging, rooting them in modern life.

On John’s return to Northampton from the bright lights of London, he finds his hometown is exactly the same as when he left it
– from the rooms at his parents’ house, to the Saturday nights on Abington Street.
In fact, the only thing that seems to have changed… is John.
Slipping back into his old habits, old jobs and old relationships,
John considers the reasons why his urge to come back took him on a sixty mile walk North,
from the anonymity of corporate city life, to the comfort of home.

With heartbreaking honesty and humour, Town explores the feelings that we all have about our hometown,
and follows one man on his road to get back to where he started. Directed by Esther Richardson,
the play will see its audience seated on the Royal stage for an intimate and up close theatrical experience.

With DC Moore's first play Alaska winning the inaugural Tom Erhardt Award for promising new playwrights in 2007
and his recent play The Empire hailed a huge success at London's Royal Court, don't miss the chance to
see the latest new play from this acclaimed young playwright.
