TEDDY PENDERGRASS
On Thursday 14th January 2010
Award-winning soul singer Teddy Pendergrass dies aged 59.
The singer, who was the first black male to record five consecutive multi-platinum albums, first gained popularity as member of Harold Melvin &The Blue Notes.
The group's best-known track If You Don't Know Me by Now was nominated for a Grammy Award.
According to his son, Teddy Pendergrass II, the former Blue Note died in a Philadelphia hospital on Wednesday after a difficult recovery from colon cancer surgery eight months ago.
Pendergrass embarked on a successful solo career in 1976.
He received numerous music awards during 1977 and 1978, including an American Music Award and several Grammy nominations.

The R&B singer became an inspirational figure after a car accident in 1982 left him paralysed from the waist down.
He returned to recording just a year later with the album Love Language and later set up the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance, a non-profit organisation focussed on helping individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Teddy Pendergrass was born on March 26, 1950 in Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife, his mother, a son, two daughters and nine grandchildren.
For me , Teddy's "Turn Off the Lights" , is a very seductive song , a very good track tempo and lyrics imply a sexual encounter.
I remember many a good night by a open roaring fire, with "Turn Off The Light's playing, and laying on a rug with my partner , and the rest is for you to guess, lol .
Teddy R.I.P. bruv i will miss you and your musical input xx
